Graduate Admissions

 

Admission Rules for MS Applicants

 

• When should I apply?
  • For Spring term: First half of January.
  • For Fall term: Second half of July.
  • Conditional Early Applications for Fall term: End of March-beginning of April.
• Am I qualified for application?
  • BS degree in Engineering.
  • GPA of at least 2.50/4.00 (or equivalent).
  • LES/ALES “sayısal” score of at least 60/80 or quantitative GRE score of at least 610; quantitative GRE score of at least 610 for foreign applicants. Note that LES/ALES and GRE scores are valid for two years.
  • Proficiency in English. TOEFL (computer-based minimum 213, TWE: minimum 4.5 or paper-based minimum 550, TWE: minimum 4.5 or IBT Test: 79, TWE: 24) or IELTS of minimum 7.0 or Boğaziçi University English Proficiency Test (BUEPT) of minimum 60 is required. Applicants who do not satisfy the English requirements above but have an “intermediate” level of English in BUEPT are qualified to study at Bogazici University School of Foreign Languages (YADYOK) for one year provided that they are accepted to the graduate program by the department. Applicants with "beginner" level English are not qualified for study at YADYOK.

• Are there other requirements?

  • An applicant should have an undergraduate or graduate diploma in order to be admitted.
  • Applicants must complete their undergraduate degree programs by the admission period at the latest.

• Required documents for application

  • Completed application form with photograph.
  • The official transcript, sent directly to the Registrar's Office by the university from which the applicant has graduated.
  • The certified photocopy of the B.S. diploma.
  • Two recommendation letters. The form for the letter of recommendation can be found here.
  • An official document indicating the applicant's disciplinary record at the university from which he or she has graduated (only if you are applying from a Turkish University).
  • Evidence of the applicant's proficiency in English.
  • The receipt of application fee (Garanti Bank Bogazici University Branch , account number: 6299738)

• Where to apply?

  • Students should apply to Registrar Office (Kayıt İşleri) at Guney Campus

• How am I evaluated?

  • Promising candidates will be called for an interview before a final decision is reached on their application. The purpose of the interview is two-fold. The applicants is first interviewed to assess his/her potentials and motivations; and then examined to evaluate his/her academic and research capabilities.
  • Admission is finalized by the approval of the Board of Institute for Graduate Studies in Science and Engineering upon the recommendation of the department and announced to the applicant.

• Is there a quota on the number of students admitted?

  • 60 for the Fall term
  • 30 for the Spring term

Admission Rules for PhD Applicants

 

• When should I apply?
  • For Spring term: First half of January.
  • For Fall term: Second half of July.
  • Conditional Early Applications for Fall term: End of March-beginning of April.
• Am I qualified for application?
  • BS and MS degrees in Engineering.
  • GPA of at least 3.25/4.00 (or equivalent).
  • LES/ALES “sayısal” score of at least 60/80 or quantitative GRE score of at least 610; quantitative GRE score of at least 610 for foreign applicants. Note that LES/ALES and GRE scores are valid for two years.
  • Proficiency in English. TOEFL (computer-based minimum 213, TWE: minimum 4.5 or paper-based minimum 550, TWE: minimum 4.5 or IBT Test: 79, TWE: 24) or IELTS of minimum 7.0 or Boğaziçi University English Proficiency Test (BUEPT) of minimum 60 is required.   • Applicant should contact the faculty members who work in the area the candidate wants to specialize and take the approval of one of the faculty members to support the candidate throughout his/her study in the Ph.D. program. This process should be finished before the candidates are called for an interview.

• Required documents for application

  • The official transcript of both undergraduate and graduate education, sent directly to the Registrar's Office by the universities from which the applicant has graduated.
  • The certified photocopy of the B.S. diploma.
