Title: Electronics Laboratory II

Credits: 1


Catalog Description: Active filters. PLL circuits. Counters and dividers. Sweep circuits. Function generators, Multipliers, Comparators and Op-Amp characteristics.

 Coordinator: Ömer Cerid, Professor of Electrical Engineering

 

Goals: This laboratory course is designed to extend the knowledge of seniors in the field of electronics, to understand, analyze and measure the performance of complex electronic circuitry.

 

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

Analyze and evaluate performance of complex electronic circuitry.
Design and realize complex electronic circuitry.

Textbook: none.

Reference Texts:

Application notes of various IC manufacturers.

Prerequisites by Topic:

Electronics.


Topics:

 

1.            Feedback amplifiers (1 lab)

2.            Active filters (1 lab)

3.            Non-linear electronic circuits. (1 lab)

4.            Gain Controlled Amplifier (1 lab)

5.            Voltage Controlled Oscillators (1 lab)

6.            Crystal Oscillators (1 lab)

7.            Amplitude Modulators (1 lab)

8.            PLL circuits and Frequency Synthesis (1 lab)

9.            Voltage Comparator Circuits (1 lab).

10.           Switchmode Voltage Regulator (1 lab).

 

Course Structure: The class meets for one laboratory a week, each consisting of a  two hour session. 10 laboratory meetings per semester. There is only a final exam as a laboratory experiment.

Computer Resources: Students have to use the SPICE simulator to solve their laboratory problems.

Laboratory Resources: Dual-trace oscilloscope, function generator, power supply, breadboard, digital multimeter, readily made experiment boards for experiments 7, 8 and 10.

 

Grading:

 

1.       Laboratory performance and reports(75%).

2.       Final exam (25%).

 

Outcome Coverage:

 

(b) Ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.. Designing feedback amplifiers, non-linear electronic circuits, gain controlled amplifier and voltage controlled oscillators.

 (c) Design a system, component or process to meet desired needs. Designing feedback amplifiers, non-linear electronic circuits, gain controlled amplifier and voltage controlled oscillators.

 (k) Use of modern engineering tools. Students have to use the SPICE simulator to solve their laboratory problems.
